REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!!!
It's back and with a vengeance, NEGB1 Radio's Under 21 Battle of the Bands!!! With a better venue, bigger prizes and a better judging system this year promises to be bigger and better that last year.
This year U21BB will be held at The Raven in Worcester, MA and will consist of 5 rounds, 4 qualifying rounds and 1 final round. 1 band will advance from each qualifying round and will play in the final round where 1 winner will be crowned "The Greatest Under 21 Band". MAKE SURE YOU READ RULES CAREFULLY!!! I don't want to hear "oh we didn't know". The show dates are:
Round 1: Saturday March 24
Round 2: Saturday, April 21
Round 3: Saturday, May 19
Round 4: Saturday, June 23
Final Round: August 18
The Raven has a huge stage, killer sound system and a bar (for the adults), and pool tables. Each show will be broadcast LIVE on NEGB1 Radio.
Good luck and make sure you read the rules fully!!!!
RULES: Every band member MUST be under 21. Each band will have 20-30 minutes to perform their original music as well as their rendition of one cover of their choice. For the final round we will choose a song for you to cover. See just how good you really are and what you can do. You'll have two months to practice. Each band will have to bring their own gear. We will supply the sound system and mics. You are responsible for everything else. DON'T FORGET ANYTHING!! Each band has 15 minutes to get set up and 10 minutes to break down so if you need to bring readies, bring them. (however they will have to pay the door charge if they want to vote)
VOTING: There will be a panel of 3-4 judges for each show. The performers will be judged on; musical technique, over all performance, song writing & stage presence.
For the qualifying rounds, there will be two ways for fans to vote, in person and online, on the NEGB1.com web site. Voting will take place during the show onlyand each person can vote only once. No stuffing the ballot box! Haha. Now pay attention because this is important. Each online vote will count as one vote. Every live vote will count as 5 votes, so it pays to get your family, friends and fans to come to the show and the judge's vote for their favorite too. They will also give you, the performers, feedback about ways you can improve and what they liked.
There will be no 2nd, 3rd or 4th place winners. You're either "first or last". This is not an every kid gets a trophy competition. The prizes being offered are to good and we are looking for THE BEST!! So that’s it. Good luck to all the performers.
IMPORTANT!: Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. So get all your friends and family to come support you. Jillian’s has something for people of all ages.
All questions must be directed to info@NEGB1.com.
All performances will be held at The Raven 258 Pleseant St Worcester, MA. from 2-6pm. ALL BANDS NEED TO BE AT JILLIAN’S BY NOON, unless other wise arranged. Bands will get their set time the day of the performance. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Take the old rock styles of The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers and mix it with the newer styles of DMB and moe. Throw in an incredible sax and you have 3MF. The immense energy created by these 16 year olds has led to a band that breaks the age barriers, drawing older and younger crowds together to share the love of the music with each other. Solid drumming by James Massucco keeps fans on the edge of their seats (if they aren't already up dancing in front), allowing for Riley Feeney to make improvisational grooves and switch ups on bass. Loud, dirty, high energy rock music from Natick, MA. Formed by Anthony Santoro, Jack Francis, and Max Petot in late summer of 2008,with singer Brian Cummings joining in January 2009, Novation soon began writing original songs and playing live shows. Now, in 2011, they have rapidly made a name for themselves as a dynamic live act among young bands in the Metrowest area, and have dedicated all of their time to both writing energetic rock music and playing shows that really get the audience to move around and have a good time. Above anything else they just want to get people into the music and show them that you don't need synths and other bullshit to make exciting music. |
The Cranks
 |
The Cranks are indie alt-rockers from the music hotbed of Dunstable, MA, together since ‘06. You were expecting 4 guys and lots of guitars? The Cranks have something else to offer; captivating melodies, female vocals out front and songwriting you would expect from veterans. Their sound is reminiscent of 90’s post punk rockers like the Pixies with the modern dynamics of Guster and the power of Kings of Leon. In May, 2011, they released their 2nd CD; "Downside Up", an energetic batch of one-of-a-kind lyric themes and stick-in-your-head melodies. Wildy’s World blog gave it 4 of 5 stars calling them a “cohesive and mature trio, rattling off catchy and intelligent punk-influenced pop songs like afterthoughts”. |
Pacifist at War
|
| ***LAST YEARS WINNERS*** |
Pacifists at War is an alternative rock band based out of Wayland, Massachusetts. The group is influenced greatly by the grunge movement of the early 1990's and modern day indie and alternative rock. Bands including Brand New, Nirvana, and The Felix Culpa have shaped the band's musical ideology since its beginning in 2010. Pacifists at War started when Matt Cooper (vocals and lead guitar) and Charlie Cundari (guitar), the two of whom had played together previously, joined up with Alex Karle (drums). Though the lineup has changed over time, these three have remained the core of the group. The band has solidified their reputation while performing at various venues in the greater Boston area. Their accomplishments include winning New England Garage Bands' Battle of the Bands competition in 2011 with high marks from a panel of professional judges and by popular vote. Following the June release of their debut EP, Egress, the band gained the interest of local record label Hearing ADE Productions, which signed them in December 2011. They are currently in the process of recording their first full length album, entitled Sleep Now and Forever Hold Your Peace. |
